Anointed To Succeed (Prosper)

We are living in such an appropriate time where we must allow faith to be evident and reflective in our daily lives as believers. It has to become the predominate motivation along our Christian journey. Faith has to rise above all our circumstances and all sense of our natural realities, in order for us to complete the work ordained by God. Our ability to allow faith to rise will contribute to our over all success since God is the source by which all things are provided. It is the means by which we see, live and produce a quality life through God’s vantage point.

I can recall a profound statement made by an anointed preacher, “Your success is not in what you have or possess, but it is determined by what and who you believe.” In I Chronicles 22:13, David tells his son, Solomon that he would prosper if he is careful to observe the statues and rules that the Lord commanded. Solomon’s faith in God determined his success. Because the Lord was with him, his way was made prosperous.  

We as believers are anointed for success. To be anointed for something means to be rubbed or smeared for the purposes of healing, being set apart, or embalming (The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary). Yes, success is in our DNA as a believer. It has been rubbed and smeared all over us. If our success if determined by what we believe, it would be safe to say that our faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation to what makes us successful. There is no failure in Christ. According to scripture, God knows the plans He has for us, plans for welfare and not evil, to give us a future and a hope. Our faith gives us confidence and assurance that God is bringing us to an end of something great, SUCCESS! 

One example of this is in the life of David. David was a man anointed for success.  

I Samuel 16: 1, 3, 4a, 5-12– 1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill you horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons.” 3 “You shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you.” 4 So Samuel did what the LORD said, and came to Bethlehem. 5 He said, “In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” He also consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’S anointed is before Him.” 7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.” 9 Next Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.” 10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The LORD has not chosen these.” 11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all the children?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.” 12 So he sent and brought him in.  Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”  

As a believer, we must understand that we are anointed to prosper! To prosper (euodoô) means to have a prosperous journey, to succeed in reaching and to have success in business affairs. We should prosper in all our ways because God is with us. Our success is not in what we have or possess. It is so by what and who we believe. 

What and who do we believe? As believers, we have faith in God. In spite of the circumstances, what it looks like, feels like, and we must believe God!  

Take that one thing in your life that appears to be unfavorable, that one thing that you are not able to move beyond. Now, begin to see it in light of your belief in God. What does He say? What has He shown you? It is so amazing how that one thing begins to look much different now. 

A friend of mine once shared with me, “When you begin to change the way you look at a thing, that very same thing that you are looking at CHANGES!

When we begin to understand that God is with us, when we BELIEVE, realize that God will make our way prosperous. 

Joseph’s faith in God had to rise above rejection, accusation and slavery which landed him as the delegated authority (Governor) over Egypt (Genesis 41:41; 42:6). God made his way prosperous. Genesis 39:2-3, 2 – The LORD was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. 3 Now his master saw that the LORD was with him and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.

What a witness and testament before men! Our last example, Matthew 26:36, 37-39, Jesus’ understanding and faith in the Father allowed Him to rise above a period of darkness in His life. Bowing to the will of the Father, Jesus completed His successful journey.  He succeeded in defeating death and successfully brought deliverance and eternal life to all who would believe.
